Saint Petersburg, Florida, October 5, 2026 - Stemedix is highlighting non-opioid pain management and regenerative treatment options for people living with chronic pain and fibromyalgia symptoms. The focus comes as patients and providers continue to explore approaches that can be used alongside existing medical care and may reduce reliance on opioid-based treatment for some chronic pain conditions.

The organization recently addressed the growing interest in non-opioid approaches through educational content covering physical therapy, interventional treatments, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and regenerative medicine. The discussion also examines how individualized treatment planning may apply to people with complex conditions such as fibromyalgia.

Chronic Pain Drives Interest in Non-Opioid Care

Chronic pain affects a substantial portion of the U.S. adult population. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 24.3% of U.S. adults experienced chronic pain in 2023, while 8.5% experienced high-impact chronic pain that frequently limited life or work activities.

This public health burden has contributed to greater attention to treatment options that do not rely solely on opioid medication. Non-opioid approaches can include:

  • Physical therapy and structured exercise

  • Topical or oral non-opioid medicines

  • Nerve blocks and other interventional procedures

  • Behavioral and mind-body approaches

  • Regenerative medicine and biologic therapies

The appropriate combination depends on the patient's diagnosis, medical history, symptoms, and current treatment plan.

Regenerative Pain Management Takes an Individual Approach

Regenerative pain management is one area being explored for chronic joint, muscle, disc, nerve, and connective tissue pain. Rather than applying one treatment to every patient, the approach can involve reviewing existing medical information before a provider determines whether a regenerative option may be appropriate.

At Stemedix, patients are expected to have an established diagnosis from a physician. The team reviews available medical records, including prior diagnoses, bloodwork, and imaging, before a board-certified provider develops a treatment plan.

Fred Palmer, CEO of Stemedix, said, “We can provide science-based regenerative medicine to drive better patient outcomes.”

The clinic also works alongside patients' existing healthcare providers rather than replacing primary or specialty medical care. This distinction is particularly relevant for people who are already receiving treatment for chronic conditions.

PRP Adds Another Option for Chronic Pain

PRP therapy uses a concentrated portion of a patient's own blood platelets. Platelets contain growth factors that play roles in tissue repair and inflammation.

Research into PRP for chronic noncancer pain has expanded. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis published through PubMed Central evaluated 56 randomized controlled trials involving 7,142 patients. Across 103 comparisons, the researchers found a small reduction in pain scores with PRP compared with placebo and active drug treatments, although results varied by condition and follow-up period.

The findings also showed differences between conditions. Longer follow-up results favored PRP in several analyses, including studies involving knee osteoarthritis and rotator cuff problems. The research did not establish PRP as a universal treatment for every chronic pain condition.

Fibromyalgia Requires Care Based on Symptoms

Fibromyalgia presents a different challenge because symptoms can include widespread pain, fatigue, sleep problems, and cognitive difficulties. The CDC reports that millions of people in the United States have fibromyalgia.

PRP may be considered for localized muscle or connective tissue pain, but current research does not establish PRP as a treatment for fibromyalgia itself or as a guaranteed long-term solution.

For patients with fibromyalgia, treatment planning may consider:

  • The patient's existing diagnosis

  • Current symptoms and areas of pain

  • Previous treatments

  • Available medical records

  • Other physician-directed care

This approach recognizes that two people with the same diagnosis may have very different symptoms and treatment histories.
